Owen Jones (1809-1874) was a British architect, decorative artist, author and educator. Through his efforts to publish his findings on the historic use of colour in decoration, he also became one of the pioneers of chromolithography. He published many seminal and definitive works, including The Grammar of Ornament (1856), a highly influential book in ornamentation and decorative arts.
Telling the story of Joseph from Genesis 37 to Genesis 50, this hard to find book, first published in 1865, is a wonderful example of his work. The borders alone make this illuminated book memorable, and the illustrations are equally wonderful.
The text is contained entirely within the images, as each Bible passage (selected by Jones) is decorated to match its accompanying image. There are some color variations, as this Kindle edition was created from a very old print edition that needed to be digitally restored prior to republication. This is scarce title in print form so quality images are hard to come by.
