The Betrayal of Vietnam 1945 is the secret history of the collaboration between the United States and Ho Chi Minh during World War II. It is the true story of what happened in Vietnam the months after the atomic bomb ended the war with Japan.
The book solves one of greatest wartime mysteries of all time; the original event that caused the U.S. to become enemies with Vietnam.
The author is a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, Larry Chambers, who, returned to Vietnam to prove he was right. Instead he found that practically everything he had believed about the country, the people and war wasn’t exactly true.
This is the first book in the series reveals a hidden past and a lost opportunity, drowned in European imperial hubris, betrayal of the promise to hold democratic elections which Ho Chi Minh would have easily won, and then Cold War politics where the new imperial power, the United States, threw its youth and treasure into the maw of a brutal war against a people they never fully understood.
Central to this story is Ho Chi Minh, revered by his countrymen, reviled by the French and Americans. The author would find a kinship with this frail leader as he follows his path during the hectic days during the summer of 1945 and the clandestine meetings that shaped Vietnam's future.
What has never been discussed was the critical role that Ho Chi Minh and his Viet Minh army would have played if the atomic bomb had not forced the Japanese to surrender and the United States and its ally the Soviet Union had gone forward with the planned invasion of Japan.
Because of U.S. President Truman’s indiscretion to hide these events, the next five presidents were making decisions based on misinformation, which became the basis for all further reasoning and predictions of the future. Only Ho’s action never followed their predictive behavior which has remained a mystery.
