はじめに
「最後に･･････、売上はいくらですか？」
2011年の末のことです。コピーライター、ライターという仕事について取材にやってきた中学生さんにこう突っ込まれました。突撃インタビュー＆レポートが学校の宿題なのだそうです。
それまでさんざん、仕事の楽しさやら夢を語ったのだけれど、最後にこんな質問が、
キターーーーーーー！
そこで私はあらためて考えさせられることになるのです。
「独立して、好きなことで仕事をするのは楽しいよ」
「得意なことで人の役に立つのって最高だよ」
「私は常に、面白い話にのっかれる自分でいたいんだよね」
なーんて言ったけれど（エラソーに）、それも「ちゃんと食べていける」のが前提。お金に困らない、ちょっと余裕あるぜ！くらいじゃないと。
「自分で仕事するっていうのは、収入もいいしね」という話ができないと、夢を与えられないではないか。
中学生さんにはその場で「会社全体の売上がいくらで、ライティングは全体の何%くらいだから、このくらいかな。モゴモゴ」と話しましたが、その歯切れの悪さに深く反省をしてしまいました。
私は実際、ライティングでいくら稼げているのか？
ライター（書く仕事全般）は、どのくらい稼げるものなのか？
そんな連載をブログ「さむらいコピーライティング道」http://blog.samucopi.com/上で始めたのが2012年1月。全11回のシリーズになったのですが、これがとても評判がよく、2016年現在もよく読まれております。
知り合いの編集者さん曰く、「ほかではなかなか読めない情報だから面白い」のだそうです。確かに、原稿料や印税、コピー料の実際のところっていうのは、探してもあまり出てきません。普通のOL（経理担当）からいきなりフリーのライター・コピーライターになってしまった私は、お金の部分をどうしたらいいか、わからないことが多くて苦労してきました。先輩に聞いたり、全身で空気を読んだり、ライター以外の業界の考え方を参考にしたりしながら、なんとかしてきた感じです。
中学生さんに売上を聞かれたことをきっかけに、あらためて「書くことで得るお金」について調べつつ、いったんまとめてみたのがこの「ライターはいくら稼げるのか」シリーズでした。
あれから４年の歳月が流れる間に、さらに業界の情報を知ることになったり、私自身の名前で書籍を出すことになったり、電子書籍の仕事に関わることになったりとさまざまな変化がありました。
そこで、もとのブログ記事に大幅に加筆修正を加え、最新版として電子書籍のかたちにしたのが本書です。
まったくのオープンな場に書くのはちょっと気が引けるギリギリの内容も、有料の電子書籍なら！と思って書いています。
